Forced Out of Govanhill

Please watch this video and listen to this man’s experience of being forced to flee from his home because of an infestation of mice. This is not an isolated case, there are so many more in Govanhill who share the same experience.

Glasgow City Council and Govanhill Housing Association have failed to tackle the infestations of rats, mice, cockroaches and bedbugs within Govanhill for a decade now. Despite their lame excuses , filthy sanitary conditions exist today in Govanhill which have not been seen in Glasgow since the post war slum clearances.

The Damage by Pests Act (1949) states that the local authority has a statutory responsibility to eradicate such infestations. Their failure to do so amounts to dereliction of duty on their part.

The devastating impact of vermin infestations on the physical, emotional and mental well-being of Govanhill residents is expressed so clearly by the gentleman in this video.

We at Let’s Save Govanhill are asking you to share this video with our fellow citizens. Politicians and officials have either minimised or ignored the vermin infestations and filthy sanitary conditions which prevail in Govanhill.

Please don’t ignore us, we need your help. Nobody should be forced to flee their homes because of the dereliction of duty by Glasgow City Council and Govanhill Housing Association.

The poor man. He does not look very well. This is unacceptable. The litter and levels of rubbish on he streets and in the back courts are adding to this situation. These old tennements are riddled with infestations. Even in the West End of Glasgow where the rubbish levels are no way as bad as they are in Govanhill, I was infested with cockroaches on a daily basis. It was so discusting. Nowadays, anything seems to go in the private housing sector. It just gets worse and worse. If it is not properties that should have been demolished decades ago being let out at full market rates ( where I live now ) it will be something else.
