Update Emergency Summit Meeting

Lets Save Govanhill last week called for an emergency summit meeting with the leaders of Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland declaring the time had now come for Govanhill to be afforded regeneration status and a zero tolerance policy towards crime implemented.

During an informal meeting with Nicola Sturgeon last Friday, the First Minister for Scotland agreed to attend this summit meeting bringing Police Scotland Chief Constable Phil Gormley. An invitation to attend the emergency summit meeting will be extended to the Leader of Glasgow City Council Frank McAveety.

These leaders of Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland must now work together in partnership to end the fear and misery which prevails in the Govanhill ghetto. Govanhill must be afforded regeneration status and a zero tolerance crime policy implemented.

Our vision is of a Govanhill that is an attractive, diverse and energetic place to live, work, visit and conduct business in. With an ambitious regeneration strategy in place, we can create a Govanhill fit for the 21st. century. Where there is a will there is a way and our campaigners believe that will is still very much alive in Govanhill, but they need the full cooperation of Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland with the statutory powers, financial resources and expertise to make it happen.

Further details of this emergency summit meeting will be posted on the website and updates given.
